The ActivitiesWe offer two to three activities each day from 3:45-5 p.m. Activities are designed to offer new learning opportunities to students and teach them new skills. If you have a skill or hobby you would like to share with our students, please click here to learn how you can become involved. Below is some of the activites we have offered in the past, and will offer again this year. Activity Room – Offered every day throughout the year. A room is set aside for less formal activities, such as one-time events, or board and card games, art projects, etc. Art Club – Students work on various art projects, sometimes with visiting artists. Arts and Crafts — Students have fun creating different crafts projects. Art of Poetry – Students will learn the nuances of poetry while creating their own journal. Baking Basics — Student learn to bake with some simple and fun baking projects. (Limit 8 students) Chess Club – Students will learn to play chess and how it is a game of forethought and strategic planning. Cooking for Kids — Students learn the basics of cooking and how to make simple menu items. Create A Class Newspaper— Students write, design and take photographs for a class newspaper that will be distributed to the school at the end of the session. Creating a Memory Book with Scrapbooking — Students learn the art of scrapbooking and making memory books with photos and keepsakes. Digital Photography – Students will learn how to use a digital camera, and how to import and manipulate photos in Adobe Elements. (Limit 12 students.) Fun with Science – This activity is led by the high school science department as an introduction into fun science. Students will build items such as solar powered cards and bottle rockets, learning the science of the process along the way. (Limit 8 students.) Indoor/Outdoor Sports – It will include team and individual sports depending on weather and availability of fields and gym. International Flavors – Students will learn to cook meals from different cultures. Kayaking – Students will learn how to kayak at the Ludlow Rec pond before going out on the Black River. (Limit 6 students, weather permitting.) Knitting – Students will learn the craft of knitting and how to make scarves and other knitted items. Pizzamaking – Students will be bussed to Goodman’s American Pie in Ludlow to learn the history and art of making a pizza. (Limit 6 students.) Potions and Lotions — Student make homemade beauty items such as soaps, lotions, conditioners, etc. There will also be one class on tie-dying. (Limit 8 students) Swimming at Jackson Gore – Students are bussed to Jackson Gore Spa to swim in their heated outdoor pool. (Limit 20 students.) Sewing Crafts — Students learn to use a sewing machine and create basic crafts. (Limit 6 students) Video Production – Students will work at LPCtv learning video production while making their own commercial. (Limit 8 students.) Website Design — Students learn html and how to design websites. Winter Sports — Student enjoy winter sports such as snowshoeing, sledding, and skating. (weather permitting) (Limit 6 students) Please note that at any time we may have to change activities due to extenuating circumstances.
